CEDAR RAPIDS - They came, they saw, they conquered Youngstown.
The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders scored three goals in the third period Saturday night to topple the Youngstown Phantoms, 4-1. The win piggy backed one from Friday night and moved the Riders closer to cinching second place in the USHL's Eastern Conference and home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
Cedar Rapids (35-20-3, 73 standings points) has two regular-season games remaining, Friday night at home against Waterloo and Saturday night at Waterloo. Dubuque came into the day three points back and played late Saturday night against division winner Indiana.
Freddy Tiffels had a pair of goals for the RoughRiders, including the game opener seven minutes into the opening period. Youngstown tied it in the second period, but Judd Peterson put his club on top for good with a goal at 6:14 of the third.
Kevin Shand assisted on that one and Tiffels' second of the game eight minutes later as part of a five-minute power play that also produced a goal from Andrew Gaus just 32 seconds later.
Danny Tirone again the start in net and made 28 saves for the win.
