Solon officials plan to discuss resignations by Mayor Cami Jo Rasmussen and City Administrator Cassandra Lippincott, who holds the top staff position in town, when city council holds a special meeting tonight.
Lippincott and Rasmussen did not return phone messages on Thursday afternoon. A staff member who answered the phone at city hall said she had no additional information.
"The city administrator has resigned, so we have to decide on a course of action," City Council member Ron Herdliska said. "We knew that was going to happen someday."
Herdliska said Lippincott's departure is not unusual because she has been expected to move out of state.
However, details about the mayor are a bit murkier.
"I didn't know about the mayor, but I suspected maybe that could happen," he said.
Herdliska declined to elaborate, but said he is not concerned about the transition.
Other city council members and city officials did not respond to phone calls.
According to the tentative agenda, City Council will have a "discussion and possible action on accepting resignation of mayor" and then discussion on "a process for filling the mayoral vacancy."
Rasmussen was elected mayor in 2011, and previously served on city council, and before that as city clerk.
At the same meeting, which begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Solon City office, City Council will have a "discussion and possible action process for filling city administrator vacancy."
Lippincott was hired in 2005.The council may approve a contract for interim city administrator services at the meeting.
