Local cheer teams win at Internationals

ORLANDO, Fla. — Cedar Rapids very own Iowa Elite Cheer, Inc., shined at ESPN’s International All-Star Cheerleading Championships last weekend.

The four Cedar Rapids teams captured two titles, a second and fourth-place finish.

One of Iowa Elite’s teams also was the recipient of a bid to The Summit, a highly exclusion invitation-only event.

More than 500 teams competed last weekend.

“We couldn’t be more proud of our athletes,” Iowa Elite Cheer owner Todd Slezak said. “They took on some huge programs from regions of the country that have long-standing cheerleading histories, and came out on top.”

Mosers shines at USTA meet

BOONE — Eighteen members of the Moser School of Dance and Gymnastic team won titles earlier this month at a USTA Power Tumbling meet here.

Katie Boeding, Cierra Weipert, Noa Marting, Ella Marting, Hanna Marting, Kylie Henry, Kennedy Collins, Hannabelle Erickson, Emmy Troester, Maya Burkhart, Amelia Eager, Alivia Sweeney, Lily Schmitz, Daniel Clayberg, Alexa Ries, Micah Brase, Keely Recker and Tucker Erickson all won titles for Mosers.

Runners-up were Josie Briggs, Kayla Kelly, Whitley Harber, Annie Gulick, Mikya Britton, Jorgie Wendling, Kennedi Bevans, Allison Torkelson and Alaina Mead. Kayla Boeding, Jessie Glanz, Emma Marting, Bailey Andersen, Sarah VanDeWalle, Abby Cook, Avery Sweeney, CeCe Sweeney and Sophia Raubs placed third.

At a meet last month in Oskaloosa, winners were Jacob Gasper, Emma Marting, Josephine Briggs, Amber Meyers, Makayla Gasper, Hanna Marting, Kayla Felton, Whitley Harber, Emmy Troester, Hannabelle Erickson, Michelle Stelken, Sophia Geistkemper, Gabbi Funke, Grace Funke, Lily Schmitz, Karsyn Nichol, Tyler Buesing, Brody Bevans, Logan Bevans, Kennedi Bevans, Micah Brase, Tucker Erickson, Megan Brase and Madelyn Bockenstedt.

CRAG crowns 6 state champs

CEDAR RAPIDS — Six members of the Cedar Rapids Association of Gymnastics team won state titles last weekend at Veteran’s Memorial in Cedar Rapids.

Maya Deuso won on floor exercise, Kareena McSweeny on bars and Carly Mark in all around in Level 7; Consuelo Mendoza-Bruno won the vault, bars and all around and Lauren Fruehling the bars, beam and all around in Level 8; and Emma Hartzler captured the vault, bars, beam and all around in Level 9.

CRAG placewinners were Emma Westfall in Level 6; Samantha Falck, Grace Hartzler and Mary Kate Patterson in Level 7; and Jacey Carr and Jenna Danninger in Level 9.

Carr, Hartzler, Mendoza-Bruno and Fruehling qualified for regionals, next month in Fargo, N.D. Fruehling also qualified for the Level 8 Super Team.
