Despite a competitive race with a local Dubuque favorite, Rick Dickinson of Dubuque has endorsed Monica Vernon in Iowa's U.S. House 1st District Democratic primary.

“Monica Vernon is the candidate I want to represent my family in Congress," said Dickinson, a former candidate for the 1st District Democratic nomination in 2006 and president of the Greater Dubuque Development Corp." She is a working mom who raised three daughters while building a small business. She is smart, fair, she listens, and above all, we can trust her. Monica will bring a fresh approach and shake up what's wrong with Washington. She knows what it takes to get the job done. I have no doubt that she will walk into the halls of Congress and begin to make a difference in the lives of Iowans on day one.”

Dickinson served as mayor of Sabula, and then was elected twice to the Jackson County Board of Supervisors. In 1990, he was elected and then served two terms in the Iowa legislature.
