The Senate approved, 46-0, legislation for the issuance of the Sullivan brothers' award of valor special vehicle plates to an award recipient or their spouse. Plates could be purchased for $25 with an annual $5 renewal fee. Personalized plates could be purchased for an additional $25 fee and a $5 annual renewal fee. The award is given to firefighters and peace officers who display a heroic act that goes above and beyond their normal duties. "I think this is a nice way of honoring them," said Sen. Dick Dearden, D-Des Moines.
