CRAG dominates Winter Wonderland
CORALVILLE — The Cedar Rapids Association of Gymnastics swept each apparatus in Level 7 13-and-over division and crowned 21 champions at the Iowa Gym-Nest’s Winter Wonderland Invitational.
Connie Mendoza (vault), Maya Deuso (bars), Samantha Falck (beam) and Carly Mark (floor exercise) all won in the Level 7 13-and-over division. Other Level 7 winners were Grace Hartzler (bars and floor) and Kareena McSweeny (bars and floor).
Other winners were Brooke Glasbrenner (vault, floor and all around), Jaeden Humphries (bars) and Madilyn Tumilty (beam) in Level 3, Caitlin Conner (bars), Sidney Davidson (floor), Natalie Freeman (vault), Hailey Hakes (beam) and Alyssa McAleer (bars, beam and all around) in Level 4, Consuelo Mendoza (bars and floor) in Level 8 and Emma Hartzler (bars) in Level 9.
Xcel division winners were Macie Forck (vault and bars), Bailey Fry (floor), Karin Resendiz-Medina (bars) and Kaitlyn Stone (beam) in Silver and Haley Voves (bars) in Gold.
CRAG placewinners were Lexie Goldsmith, Allison Hayes and Anna Weaver in Level 3, Kori Lyle and Grace Walker in Level 4, Mary Kate Patterson in Level 7, Lauren Fruehling in Level 8, Ava Challenger, Elly Froehlich and Mikayla Glovik in Xcel Silver and Amyah Arrington and Kylee McGovern in Xcel Gold.
Twisters’ Peterson captures IGI title
CHICAGO — Alexis Peterson of the Cedar Rapids Twisters gymnastics club won the beam and placed in four other events at the prestigious IGI Gymnastics Invitational held last month at the Navy Pier.
The meet drew clubs from across the United States as well as Bermuda, Guatemala, Canada and Puerto Rico.
Alex Sands, Hannah Martin, Lauren Easton, Allyson Steffensmeier and Colette Miller all placed in the Top 10 in events.
Iowa Blue wins AAU state title
ANKENY — The Team Iowa Blue sixth-grade girls’ won the AAU Division I state basketball title last weekend.
The Iowa Blue beat Venom, Kingdom Hoops Elite and the IAI Sunners Blue in pool play, then toppled IAI Stunners Black in the semifinals before downing Kingdom Hoops Elite, 47-34, in the championship game.This is the second straight Division I title for the Iowa Blue, which won the fifth-grade title a year ago.
