The Iowa State men’s and women’s basketball teams boast two CoSIDA first-team Academic all-Americans — one each.
The Cyclones’ Melvin Ejim earned the distinction on the men’s side, per a news release today.
Hallie Christofferson attained the honor on the women’s side.
Ejim’s grade point average stands at 3.70.
He leads the Big 12 in scoring at 19.1 points per game.
He’s a history major and …
“He gets better grades than I ever got,” his coach, Fred Hoiberg, said recently.
Not by much, probably.
Hoiberg, in 1995, was the only other ISU men’s player to garner the first-team Academic all-American honor.
Christofferson’s GPA sits at 3.43.
She’s a graphic design major.
She ranks second in the Big 12 with an 18.8 points per game scoring average.
“Every day you’re around her you feel better about yourself,” her coach, Bill Fennelly, said early this season.
Ejim returns to the court Saturday at TCU.
Christofferson next plays Saturday at home against Texas.
