I’m not sure why I continue to read Mallard Fillmore, which is seldom comedic or clever, and often is simply dumb, mean or nasty, or so right-wing as to be unworthy of your paper.
The latest strip makes me wonder about the level of intellect. It says a guy in Ohio attempted 3,118 times to sign up for Obamacare. I looked up this guy and found a “news” story that he had trouble getting logged in (as many people did) and finally started keeping track of how many times he tried. He finally was successful on Dec. 17.
Do the math. He started keeping track sometime after the website had its clumsy opening on Oct. 1. From then to Dec. 17 is 78 days. I don’t seriously believe this guy tried an average of 40 times a day for the next 11 weeks. Don’t buy it.
By the way, Mallard neglected to mention that this guy, while he faced regrettable problems with the website, still seems pretty satisfied. He’d been paying $500 per month for insurance and now he’ll be paying $13 per month for what he says is much better coverage.
No one is happy with the website problems, but that hardly means the Affordable Care Act is not an improvement for many people over past policies or no insurance at all. But you won’t find Mallard admitting that.
Do us all a favor and drop this crumby strip.
