Residents will soon have the opportunity to speak their minds about the potential sales of Cedar Rapids Community School District-owned land and property.

Members of the school board voted on Monday to schedule public hearings on Monday, Feb. 24 for the sale of Lincoln Elementary School, 912 18th Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids and 3 acres of land at 80th St. and Worcester Rd. NW, Cedar Rapids.

Sanctuary Ministries is the potential buyer for the Lincoln Elementary property – with plans to turn it into a church and resource center – while Linn County is set to purchase the Worcester Rd. site for a "shop facility," according to board documents. The sale price for Lincoln Elementary is $105,000 while the Worcester Rd. land is set to sell for $52,500.

"I am very pleased that we have this offer," said district Superintendent Dave Benson about Sanctuary Ministries' interest in Lincoln Elementary.

Steve Graham, executive director of business services for the district, said it is still unknown whether or not those sales will be up for board approval at the Monday, Feb. 24 regular meeting.
