MESKWAKI SETTLEMENT — An agent with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation said Friday that federal charges are still possible in the double homicide case that shocked and saddened the Meskwaki Settlement earlier this week.

Gordon Lasley Jr, 25, was charged Thursday with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his parents, Gordon Lasley Sr and Kim Lasley after the couple was found dead late Wednesday on the Meskwaki Settlement in Tama County. He is being held at the Tama County jail on $2 million bond.

DCI Special Agent Bill Kietzman said Friday that the state charges were filed Thursday because that was what was most appropriate at the time, adding federal charges are still possible. If federal charges were filed, the state charges would be dropped, he said.

Moving forward, Kietzman said the DCI, FBI, Meskwaki Nation Tribal Police Department and the Tama County Sheriff's Office will be working the case.

Tama County Attorney Brent Hereen declined to comment on whether federal charges were still a possibility late Friday.
