The University of Iowa is represented at all 10 weight classes again in the latest installment of NCAA Division I individual rankings released by Amateur Wrestling News on Tuesday.
The Hawkeyes have seven ranked in the top five of their respective weights and eight in the top 10. They are led by Tony Ramos (133), defending NCAA champion Derek St. John (157) and heavyweight Bobby Telford, who are all ranked third. Nick Moore (165) and senior 174-pounder Ethen Lofthouse are ranked fourth. Red-shirt freshman Thomas Gilman is fifth at 125, while Mike Evans is fifth at 174. Josh Dziewa (141) is 10th. Brody Grothus and Nathan Burak are ranked 14th at 149 and 197.
University of Northern Iowa has six ranked wrestlers, including four projected to be All-Americans at the end of the season. Joe Colon is the state’s lone top-ranked wrestler, sitting atop the 133 class. Red-shirt freshman Dylan Peters (125) and All-American Ryan Loder (184) are both ranked sixth. Cooper Moore, a red-shirt freshman at 165, is ranked eighth. Joey Lazor, an NCAA qualifier last season, is 18th at 141 and Cody Caldwell (174) is 19th.
Iowa State has three ranked wrestlers. All-American Kyven Gadson is the highest rated Cyclone. He is ranked second, behind Minnesota’s Scott Schiller, at 197. Mike Moreno, also a returning All-American, is 16th at 165. Tanner Weatherman is 16th at 174.
UNI hosts Iowa State on Saturday, starting at 5 p.m. The Panthers and Cyclones will have two matches, pitting ranked wrestlers against one another. ISU’s Moreno will face Cooper Moore at 165. At 174, UNI’s Caldwell will take on Weatherman. The dual can be see live on KCRG 9.2.
Former Ankeny and Ballard state champion Ross Larson is 17th at heavyweight for University of Oklahoma.
