State Sen. Brad Zaun, R-Urbandale, officially threw his hat into the 3rd District congressional race Tuesday. The three-term senator is making his second congressional bid, having lost to Democratic incumbent U.S. Rep. Leonard Boswell in the 2010 election. The 3rd District -- redrawn after the 2010 census to span counties in central and southwest Iowa currently is represented by U.S. Rep. Tom Latham, R-Clive, who has announced he will retire when his current term ends. Before becoming a state senator, Zaun, 51, served as mayor and a city council member in Urbandale.
