I want to send a heartfelt thank you to the residents of Linn County and their support for veterans.

I have sent out individual letters to many of those who have donated during this holiday season. I will highlight a few: Joe Benedict and his Kennedy High School students; for the third year they collected food for our food pantry and donated Christmas gifts. Linn County Treasurer’s department provided holiday food baskets between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The Villages of Marion, American Legion Post 298, VFW Post 788, Rockwell Collins, and Hawkeye Labor Council were other thoughtful and patriotic donors. There are many others but too numerous to list.

These veterans served their country with honor, but are struggling on unemployment or underemployment wages. Most of our veterans have families and the average age of the children we serve is 9 years old.
