Two annexations backed by the City Council now have been given final approval by the state’s City Development Board.

Both annexations are on the west side of northeast Cedar Rapids, and both are supported by 100 percent of the property owners.

The largest of the two, 63.61 acres, will permit developers Jon Dusek and Dustin Kern to build about 90 homes on about 45 acres north of Blairs Ferry Road NE and west of Milburn Road NE. Construction on some homes could start this spring, Dusek has said.

The second annexation is south of 42nd Street NE and west of Edgewood Road NE and involves some of the homeowners in a bigger-lot subdivision who want to come into Cedar Rapids and connect to the city’s water and sanitary sewer services. The city requires annexation for properties to connect to city services.
