CRST International has changed the name of Specialized Transportation Inc., which it acquired in 2011, to CRST Specialized Transportation to better fit within the company’s brand.
CRST Specialized Transportation provides custom supply chain solutions for products that require high touch support, special handling and equipment, and value added on-site services. The business, which enabled CRST to enter the specialized handling and transportation business, was previously the High Value Products/Logistics Division of North American Van Lines.
CRST Specialized Transportation will continue assisting customers in the technology, healthcare, industrial, furniture, store fixtures, retail, and financial services markets. The acquisition gave CRST access to a network of agents and 52 distribution centers in across North America.
“We wanted to formally integrate STI into the CRST family of companies to solidify the synergy between it and our other operating companies, which include expedited van, flatbed, dedicated fleet, temperature controlled and logistics services,” said CRST President and CEO Dave Rusch.
Cedar Rapids-based CRST employs more than 4,600 drivers and office personnel, and an additional 3,000 independent contractors across the nation. The company operates more than 4,600 tractors, with an average age of 18 months, and 7,300 trailers.
Last month, CRST acquired BESL Transfer, a privately owned Cincinnati, Ohio-based short haul flatbed trucking company. CRST funded the purchase through existing cash reserves, allowing the company to remain debt-free.
