A Coralville man is accused of abusing a dependent adult in his car.

According to the Iowa City Police Department, the victim, a dependent adult, met with police to report she was abused by a caretaker. Police said the woman allowed officers to collect DNA from the area of her body where the abuse occurred. That sample was sent to the Division of Criminal Investigation's crime lab for analysis.

Police interviewed the man accused of the abuse, 47-year-old Messan S. Ajavon, who denied the allegations. Ajavon consented to a DNA test, which was also sent to the DCI lab. Police said the DNA taken from the woman's body matched Ajavon's DNA profile. He was arrested and now faces one count of dependent adult abuse, a serious misdemeanor.
