Attempted robbery reported in Iowa City

Two suspects reportedly grabbed woman's purse

The Iowa City Police Department is investigating an attempted robbery.

Officers responded to the area of 1416 Plum St. at 11:43 p.m. Sunday for a report of a woman yelling. Upon arrival, police learned two men had approached the victim, displayed a handgun and grabbed the woman's purse. The woman was able to fight off the would-be robbers, who fled in a dark-colored sedan.

The suspects are described as black men, wearing dark clothing, hoodies and were both about six feet tall. No one was injured in the attempted robbery.

Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 358-TIPS.
