DES MOINES – Gov. Terry Branstad will not close schools Monday in anticipation of a frigid winter chill.
“Gov. Branstad leaves weather-related school closings to the local districts,” Branstad spokesman Jimmy Centers said in an e-mail on Friday.
The National Weather Service issued a severe weather advisory for Jan. 5-7 on Friday warning residents of bone-chilling and potentially deadly cold.
The forecast prompted Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton to announce Friday that schools would be closed Monday. Meanwhile, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker was also considering a statewide school closing.
