Local girls win state gymnastics titles

Twisters shine at state meet

CEDAR RAPIDS — Eight members of the Twisters Gymnastics Club won titles last weekend at the Iowa state championships, including two-event winners Taylor Peterson and Bree Lewis.

Victoria Barbieri (beam) won in Level 3, Carlie Mather (bars), Peyton Sands (floor exercise) and Elise Smith (all around) in Level 4 and Peterson (bars, all-around), Lewis (beam, floor), Leah Hendrickson (bars), Riley Kalouse (bars) and Sammie Triplett (beam) in Level 5.

Other Level 3 placewinners were Aubrey Gilliland and Amera Nakuritimana. Reese Miller placed in Level 4 and Megan Hendrickson and Lindsey Carnahan in Level 5.

Twisters also had several winners and placewinners at the Jingle Bell Invitational in Hiawatha and Peppermint Twisters meet in Minneapolis earlier this month.

Barbieri (vault, beam, floor, all around) won four events in Level 3 and Nakuritimana (vault, bars and all around) captured three. Smith swept five events (vault, bars, beam, floor, all around) in Level 4, Sands (vault, floor, all around) and Emily Cumbo (beam, floor, all around) three each and Chloe Carpenter (bars, beam) and Lacey Neighbor (vault, all around) two apiece. Reese Miller (bars) and Mather (bars) also won in Level 4.

Bree Lewis won five events (vault, bars, beam, floor, all around) in Level 5, Kalouse (beam, all around) won two and Megan Hendrickson (bars), Ashley Grice (vault), Tatum Burnhardt (bars), Triplett (floor) and Emma Lewis (vault) also won.

Level 3 placewinners were Gilliland, Sydney Cira-Debban, Peyton Krotz, Adria Knudson and Corrin Williams. Sophia Barbieri, Elizabeth Tanner and Shawna Lindermann placed in Level 4, and Leah Hendrickson, Taylor Peterson, Anna Penning, Aliyah Burtis and Gabriella Schroud placed in Level 5.

At the Peppermint Twister meet, Alex Sands placed second in the floor exercise and Hannah Martin third on the beam in Level 8.

CRAG’s Tumilty, Andrew win multiple state titles

CEDAR RAPIDS — Ava Andrews and Madilyn Tumilty of the Cedar Rapids Association of Gymnastics captured three titles apiece at last weekend’s state championships at Kirkwood.

Both in Level 3, Andrews won the vault, beam and all around while Tumilty captured the vault, floor exercise and all around.

Other state championships for CRAG Lexi Goldsmith (beam) and Allison Hayes (bars) in Level 3, Caitlin Conner (bars) in Level 4 and Kyleigh Garcia (bars) in Level 5.

State placewinners were Brooke Glasbrenner, Jaeden Humphries, Autumn Poston and Anna Weaver in Level 3, Elizabeth Anderson, Jenna Carney, Hailey Hakes, Ashton Kapelanski, Riley Smith and Sophia Wilbanks in Level 4, and Kayla Hahn in Level 5.

Smith won the Level 4 vault, bars, beam and all around at the Jingle Bell Invitational earlier this month.

Hahn won the beam, floor and all around in Level 5 and Lilly Winterowd and Goldsmith won the beam and floor, in Level 5 and 3, respectively.

CRAG’s other winners were Andrews (all around), Shea Johnson (bars), Tumilty (bars) and Bethany Young (vault) in Level 3, Anderson (bars), Carney (beam), Conner (bars), Sidney Davidson (vault), Natalie Freeman (beam) and Kori Lyle (beam) in Level 4, and Garcia (bars) in Level 5.

Placewinners from CRAG were Brooke Glasbrenner, Allison Hayes, Humphries, Poston and Weaver in Level 3, and Jordyn Bowers, Kapelanksi and Alyssa McAleer in Level 4.
