Call coach’s firing what it is

The headline was very definitive: “Rhoads acts quickly with changes” (Dec. 2).

The two coaches’ photos appeared with Courtney Messingham captioned “fired” while Kenith Pope was “dismissed.” Page 2 headline followed with, “ISU/Rhoads fires offensive coaches after lackluster 3-9 campaign.”

Reminds me of the time during a company “downsizing” when none of my friends were fired, but many were “deselected” and not allowed to continue their work.

Let’s leave the word play up to the politicians and human resources personnel and out of the newspaper.
