Two Muscatine residents have been accused of voter fraud for voting in the 2012 Elections, despite not being U.S. citizens.

Last week, Muscatine County Attorney Alan Ostergren filed charges of first-degree election misconduct against Mayra Alejandra Lopez Morales and Sylvia Rada. The women were accused of registering to vote and voting in the 2012 general election "while being non-citizens."

The voter fraud cases were first referred to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation by the Iowa Secretary of State's office. Following the DCI's investigation, the cases were forwarded to Muscatine County for prosecution.
