The Iowa State Patrol reports one person died and another was injured after a crash in Tama County Friday morning.

Deputies say 21-year-old Vernon Lasley was eastbound on County Road E49 and failed to negotiate a curve. Lasley lost control of his car and drove into a ditch, hitting a tree.

Lasley was injured in the crash and was taken to the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center.

The passenger in his car was killed in the crash. Officials aren't releasing that person's name as they work to notify family.

The crash remains under investigation.
