Your Purdue two deeps: Your 'due deeps

Kirk Ferentz talks to the inhouse sports information staff on Sunday evenings.

Here are a few highlights from last night's chat:

-- RB Mark Weisman has an elbow sprain.

"We should have Mark back healthy," he said.

-- QB Jake Rudock could've gone back into the Wisconsin game, but Ferentz made the call to keep him on the sidelines with a sprained left knee.

"Jake could've gone back in after awhile late in the fourth quarter," Ferentz said. "It just didn't seem like a wise thing to do."

It wasn't. Iowa QBs were sacked once and officially hurried seven times. They were hit a whole bunch more. UW clearly made pressuring the QB a priority and it was four quarters of "mission accomplished" on that front.

Sounds like good to go for Rudock, Weisman and guard Jordan Walsh, who left the game with what appeared to be an ankle injury.

"The good news is Sunday everyone was doing pretty well, better than we anticipated," Ferentz said. "Everyone should be full speed by Tuesday."

That was the statement on injuries. There was nothing on DE Dominic Alvis. Iowa radio said Saturday (if was Dolph or Rob Brooks, can't remember which) that Alvis wanted to go, but the doctors said no. He has a back ailment and has been out since the first half of the Michigan State game, a span of 3 1/2 games.

Junior Andrew Donnal came in for Walsh. Donnal is 6-7 and the "helmetception" happened. That kind of killed things for the Hawkeyes. Saturday, I filed that under "you know it's not your day when."

Here's a post from @KegsnEggs on it. It made ESPN SportsCenter's "Not Top 10."

The music provides a snort, but the clip highlights everything that unplugged Iowa's offense on Saturday. Wisconsin is one of the top defenses in the league. The Badgers pressured Iowa QBs all day. The backside pressure on most outside zone runs made the read for the RB impossible. Iowa's offense was overrun, but Wisconsin's D will be counted with Michigan State and Ohio State when the season is over.

-- Here's Northwestern's uniform for its Nov. 16 game against Michigan. The "Wounded Warrior" look is to honor troops. It is connected to the Wounded Warrior Project. The organization partnered with NU on the uniforms, so it's not just a marketing grab and that and the fact that these uniforms are a spectacular statement earn my approval (not that anyone was looking!).

-- And the two deep is out:

No Alvis, but all other injured dudes listed.

One change: True freshman Reggie Spearman has replaced Marcus Collins as backup weakside linebacker. Collins was dismissed from the team last Friday after being arrested for an OWI while already being on a three-game suspension. Spearman (6-3, 225) has a regular role in Iowa's "raider" defense, a third-down pass rush unit.
