REGIONAL CENTERS BOOMING: Kirkwood Community College regional center initiative continues to exceed expectations. The Jones County center that opened in 2009 has about 350 high school and 100 traditional students. A second center that just opened — the Linn County facility in Hiawatha — has 500 high school students enrolled, twice the expected total. High school students get a jump on college credits at no cost. Two other centers are in the works.
HONORED: Harmon Webb, 88, received well-earned recognition Sunday at Living Waters Kingdom Church in Cedar Rapids. Webb, also a pastor, was one of the first black business owners in the city, operating a construction and paving company for more than four decades. His was known as a hard worker, fair and honest with all, and helpful to many.
COLLABORATION: The 1105 Project, a partnership involving the Free Lunch Program, Domestic Violence Intervention Program, National Alliance on Mental Illness and the Crisis Center of Johnson County, is moving under one roof in Iowa City to money on overhead and provide more convenient service to clients.
