Once upon a time there was a man who lived by a river. He heard a radio report that the river was flooding the town and he should evacuate immediately. But the man said, “I’m religious, I pray. God loves me. God will save me.” But the waters began to rise. A man in a rowboat came along, shouted, “The town is flooding! I’ll take you to safety.” The man shouted back, “I’m religious, I pray. God loves me. God will save me.”
Finally, a helicopter came hovering overhead, and a man with a megaphone shouted, “The town is flooded! Let me drop down a ladder and I will help you to safety.” But the man refused yet again. The man then drowned.
When he got to heaven, he asked God, “I thought you loved me. Why did this happen?” God said, “What are you talking about? I sent you a radio report, a rowboat and a helicopter!”
God isn’t going to save us from climate change. He has sent us the radio report about it — 97 out of 100 climate scientists tell us that climate change is happening — but we’re not listening. And God has sent us the rowboat and the helicopter, too.
We have the knowledge and we have the technology to stop climate change. We just don’t have the political will. Please, call Rep. Dave Loebsack (866)-914-4692) or Rep. Bruce Braley (319) 364-2288) and tell them you don’t want to drown on your rooftop.
