Brandon Wegher rushed for 158 yards last Saturday

Ex-Hawkeye's first game since 2009 is a good one

Brandon Wegher was a comet in the Iowa Hawkeyes' sky. He rushed for a school freshman-record eight touchdowns, and gained 641 yards in Iowa's glorious 2009 season.

Then he left the program shortly before the 2010 season for personal reasons. He hadn't resurfaced in a college football game until last Saturday.

Wegher now plays for NAIA school Morningside College in Sioux City. He is from Dakota Dunes, S.D., and attended high school at Bishop Heelan in Sioux City.

Wegher carried 25 times for 158 yards and two TDs in his team's 56-28 win over Valley City State last Saturday. He also caught two passes for 18 yards, and averaged 62.1 yards on nine kickoffs, with two not returned out of the end zone.

He would have been a senior with Iowa last season, assuming he hadn't lost a season to injury for any reason.

Morningside was the national runner-up last year, and was No. 1 in the NAIA's preseason poll.
