In the July 18 Waterloo Courier, an article from the Associated Press stated: “The treats Twinkies and cupcakes disappeared from shelves almost eight months ago when the company that made them shut down its plant and said that it ws going out of business.” Why was it not stated that the company shut down because it could not reach agreement with one of its unions?
Why was not the whole truth told? In reporting only part of the story, the author told the truth but only part of the truth and so the truth tells a lie. This is the fatal flaw of the media today. When I was a boy, newspapers were the guardians of accuracy of things newsworthy. They told the truth and nothing but the truth.
Today the media have assumed the roll of political opinion markers. If a public figure of the left tells a lie, the media immediately swear to it. Also, if a conservative public figure makes an observation, it is published in the back pages. In other words, the media have become propaganda agents for liberal thinking.
The greatest nation the earth has ever known has just about been destroyed by the newspapers that we become dependent upon to provide red flags and other symbols.
And what are we doing about it? The various Tea Parties need to be encouraged. Various conservative organizations that seek to educate need our help. Friends and neighbors need to hear our concerns.
