IOWA CITY — In response to complaints, Johnson County on Thursday began removing campaign signs from its right of way.
In a news release, County Auditor Travis Weipert said there are a “higher number of complaints than usual,” so the county’s Secondary Roads Department would start taking down signs.
“While we encourage people to exercise their rights to free expression, the sign restrictions in state law are a safety issue,” Weipert said.
School elections are Sept. 10. City elections are Nov. 5.
