2013 top overall MLB draft pick Mark Appel picked up his first professional victory Tuesday night, 7-2, over the Cedar Rapids Kernels. The Stanford grad threw a career-high five innings, allowing two hits and two unearned runs.

The Houston Astros' mega-prospect talked with reporters following the game about his win, his short career and his immediate future.

Rumors have had the Astros keeping him at both Rookie-level Tri-City and Quad Cities for a set amount of time before another promotion. He dispelled that Tuesday.

"They have a science behind it all, and they don't have to explain any of the decisions that they make," he said. "As of now, I'm a Quad Cities River Bandit, until they tell me otherwise."
