As of June 1, Mercy Medical Center has taken ownership and operation of the heart center, an existing cardiology practice in the Eighth and Eighth medical office building on the Mercy campus.
The practice will operate as Mercy Cardiology Clinic with the same physicians and staff and at its current location.
The Cedar Rapids Heart Center opened in 2007.
The cardiologists and the hospital along with MercyCare community physicians now will coordinate care through Epic, a shared electronic health record.
“Epic is new to Mercy this year. It’s new to our clinic,” said Cam Campbell, medical director of cardiovascular services at Mercy and a cardiologist with Cedar Rapids Heart Center. “It allows us to share a common record.
“It also allows us to review records of patients at other facilities that may have Epic as well, if they so choose us to allow to share information.”
Campbell said Epic has become “almost a national model for a medical record.”
