I was disappointed in the advice given to gout sufferers in the April 20, edition (“Good Health,” Dr. Keith Roach). The good doctor’s approach is symptomatic of the current approach to health or what is often termed allopathic medicine. That simply means we rely on drugs rather than natural cures to health problems.
The best way to prevent future attacks of gout is to change one’s diet from acidic to alkaline foods (there is a good list at http://rense.com/1.mpicons/acidalka.htm). I had painful episodes of gout for years. The drugs did relieve some of the pain symptoms, but they did not prevent future attacks.
After I changed my diet (drastically) I have not had an attack for years. In addition, my health has improved in other ways as well.
