Almost three months after Kennedy High School Principal Mary Wilcynski announced her retirement, Cedar Rapids Community School District Superintendent Dave Benson has selected her replacement.
District officials released word Monday that Benson will recommend Jason Kline to fill the administrative vacancy, pending approval from the district's school board. Kline, assistant principal at Myers Park High School in Charlotte, N.C., was one of five candidates to visit Kennedy and meet with students, staff and community members in late April.
Word broke on May 2 Kline was one of three finalists for the position. The other two were Brian Coppess, associate principal at Urbandale High School in Urbandale, and Aaron Stecker, associate principal and activities director at Kennedy.
Sunday, June 30 is Wilcynski's final day as Kennedy's principal. School board members are set to vote on Kline's employment at their next regular meeting, scheduled for Monday, May 13.
