IOWA CITY -- The estimated budget for part of a proposed new scoreboard and sound system at Kinnick Stadium has increased by more than $1.1 million after construction bids came back higher than expected.

The state Board of Regents on Thursday will consider the University of Iowa proposal for the new scoreboard and sound system at Kinnick. Officials on Monday released a revised budget for one part of the project.

The infrastructure updates necessary for the installation of the new items were first estimated at about $1.3 million. Those infrastructure costs are now estimated at $2.4 million, after the three construction bids on that portion came in higher than expected, officials said. The higher costs are a result of the tight construction schedule, calculation errors within the prepared estimate and design refinements due to site and building conditions discovered after approval of the initial budget, officials said.

The master lease for the entire project, which covers purchase of the equipment and installation, is still expected not to exceed $8 million, officials said.
