No real news, but here's the gist of what Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said on the Big Ten teleconference:
KF on DM: Felt like opp to go out and say thanks to central, western Iowa [Iowa practices at Valley Stadium in West Des Moines this Sunday 1:30 p.m.].
KF: Break up practice routine. Players enjoy playing in front of fans.
KF on ST: Chris White, LeVar Woods and grad assistant Kelvin Bell on the job.
KF on QB: Three-horse race. No pre-conceived notions. Rotate QBs every couple of snaps. Still "jump ball" between the three.
KF on OL: 6, 7 or 8 competing.
KF on DL: Young last year. Hopefully growth shows up this fall.
KF on B Kennedy: Worked with Davis. Relationship, rapport. High-energy coach. Good response.
KF on C White: Backs farther along than last year. Nice job on ST. Last four years working ST. Upside there.
KF on Jim Reid: Expertise and knowledge in a lot of different systems. Veteran voice in the defensive meetings.
KF on philosophical changes: We didn't play the way we liked to play last season [talking style, way they were coached].
"We have to do a better job in all areas and that starts with me."
KF on TE: Such variety, it's hard to put the position in one small box [Iowa has now listed YB, which is small, WRish TE].
Iowa LB James Morris joined in.
James Morris on DM trip: It's something to break the monotony.
Morris on LTP: Anticipating he'll be back 100 percent when it's time to go this fall.
Morris names he's liked so far: DE Drew Ott, DT Mike Hardy, DT Carl Davis and DE Dominic Alvis. [Why, yes, if those names come through . . . leaps and bounds ahead of last season.]
Morris on the mark he wants to leave: The mark we've left so far, I don't think we've left a strong one. Being brutally honest.
Morris: I'm not happy about it, but I'm excited we have one more opportunity to change things. That's my goal and team's goal.RB coach Chris White and LB coach LeVar Woods speak at 12:30. We'll have some players afterward.
