CEDAR RAPIDS — The newly renovated U.S. Cellular Center Arena will be managed by the same firm that has managed it for years, VenuWorks, the Ames-based venue management firm.
The City Council on Tuesday will approve an agreement between VenuWorks and DoubleTree Management Services to manage, operate and provide marketing for the arena for 5.5 years, from the date of the arena’s reopening on June 1, 2013, through Dec. 31, 2018.
The arena along with the city’s new convention center is part of the U.S. Cellular Center at the city-owned DoubleTree by Hilton hotel attached to the arena.
With news of the new management agreement with Hilton, VenuWorks wasted little time on Monday in announcing that it was looking to hire 250 or more workers to fill part-time jobs that will come when the arena reopens on June 1.
Gene Felling, VenuWorks’ executive director in Cedar Rapids, on Monday said the company expected to hire people who previously had worked at the arena as well as others interested in being associated with the newly renovated facility.
Some weeks at the arena can be busy, some less so, he pointed out.
Departments seeking employees are event staff, food and beverage, operations, security and technical/production.
Application information can be found at www.uscellularcenter.com/jobs.html. Interested candidates also can fill out applications in person at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena, 1100 Rockford Rd. SW, during the workday, Monday through Friday.
VenuWorks also continues to manage the city’s Paramount Theatre and Ice Arena and is close to finalizing a management deal on the city’s outdoor amphitheater, slated to open in late summer, Felling said.
Felling said VenuWorks had been in negotiations with Hilton for six to eight months to secure the U.S. Cellular Center Arena management contract.
