DES MOINES – After struggling through the first day of competition at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, Iowa State got on a roll Friday afternoon.

The Cyclones won three of four consolation matches in the morning, then all three in the afternoon – including a pin from heavyweight Matt Gibson.

Michael Moreno and Kevyn Gadson also are alive, along with quarterfinal loser Tanner Weatherman – all one win away from being All-Americans.

“We just want our guys to compete,” Jackson said after the 6-2 third session. “When they do that, we get positive results.”

Friday night’s session starts at 6 p.m.

“It’s a big round (Friday),” Jackson said. “We have to wrestle even better.”
