The Science Center will be hosting a transportation themed LEGO® build from 1-3pm on April 21, 2013. This event will take place at the Newbo City Market and is for children kindergarten on up. This is a free event geared for kids and families and made possible in part by Rockwell Collins and the Education Blueprints Association.
Special guest and judge for the event will be LaSheila Yates. Yates is the current Mrs. Iowa International and will give out prizes for best mode of transportation, most creative, and best overall. Ms.Yates will be on hand to talk to kids and families about the importance of STEM education. As Mrs. Iowa International 2013, the focus of LaSheila’s platform is engaging underrepresented populations in Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
The first 100 children to build will receive a LEGO® themed giveaway. Participants can get their picture taken with their creation by onsite photographers free of charge and enjoy robotics demonstrations by a LEGO® league team from New Covenant Bible Church. There will also be cookie decorating, a membership raffle, and free admission coupons to visit the Center.
The Science Center is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 5pm and Sunday noon to 5pm. Admission during public hours is $3.00. Located at Lindale Mall, the museum has ample parking and is conveniently located between First Avenue and Collins Road.
