How much did the blowout loss to Baylor in the finals of the Big 12 women’s basketball championships hurt Iowa State?

Not. One. Bit.

“They lost to Baylor and guess what? So would have everybody else in the country,” ESPN bracketology expert Charlie Creme said in a phone interview late last week. “(That game) meant nothing in terms of injuring any sort of prospects that Iowa State had.”

So where did Creme peg the Cyclones to be slotted once the NCAA women’s tournament field is announced beginning at 6 p.m. today?

“I could see them maybe being a five — I have them as a six, as the best six, so to speak, on the six line,” Creme said.

Not bad for an ISU team (23-8) ranked 23rd in the Associated Press poll and set to play in its seventh straight tournament.

What’s potentially not so good: Creme, as of Monday morning, had the sixth-seeded Cyclones facing No. 11-seed Gonzaga in a first-round game at Spokane, Wash.

“It’s really putting a puzzle together,” Creme said.
