Second teen charged in Marion sex abuse case

CEDAR RAPIDS – Another teenaged boy was charged as an adult Wednesday in Linn County District Court for sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl in Marion last month, according to a criminal complaint.

Justin Michael Purcell, 16, of Walford is charged with second-degree sexual abuse. He is accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl Jan. 13, in Marion, according to the complaint. The girl described to police how she was forced to have sex against her will with Purcell and his accomplice.

Isaac David Hall, 17, of Fairfax boy was charged Tuesday for sexually abusing the same 14-year-old girl and two 13-year-old girls in Walford and Marion, according to a criminal complaint.

Hall is charged as an adult with three counts of third-degree sexual abuse. The incidents occurred Jan. 6 and Jan. 10.

Hall and Purcell admitted to police having sex with the 14-year-old girl but said it was consensual. Hall also admitted to having sex with the two 13-year olds, according to the complaint.

If convicted, Purcell faces 25 years in prison, and Hall faces up to 30 years in prison. Both would also face a special sentences of lifetime parole for sex offenders.
