The victim of a fatal accident in the 2400 block of Mount Vernon Road SE Monday afternoon was identified Tuesday as John Aldershof, 45, of Cedar Rapids.

According to police spokesperson Sgt. Cristy Hamblin, Aldershof was eastbound on Mount Vernon Road SE around 1:20 p.m. Monday, passing a car driven by Adam Gorsh, 26, of Palo, when Aldershof’s car crossed the center line and collided head-on with a westbound grain truck driven by Mark Vislisel, 48, of Mount Vernon.

Vislisel’s truck pushed Aldershof’s car into Gorsh’s car, police said, sending both cars into residential yards on the south side of Mount Vernon Road.

Aldershof was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. No one else was hurt. The crash remains under investigation.
