In sports card lingo, a “pull” refers to finding a special card in a pack that you buy. Most of the time, those “pulls” are memorabilia cards or certified autographed cards.
Over the years, I’ve pulled some pretty good stuff. Found a Barry Bonds jersey swatch Bowman card a few years back, for instance.
But perhaps my best “pull” was this card. For some odd reason, I bought one – yes, just one – pack of Press Pass football cards back in 2000. Press Pass always has featured football players just out of college and headed to the NFL. That’s why they are in their college jerseys on the cards. It’s essentially their first professional football card.
Inserted in random packs of Press Pass cards are autographed cards. Like this one.
It’s a Tom Brady rookie, with him wearing his Michigan jersey. I can tell you at the time, I was pretty disappointed that out of all the autographed cards I could have gotten, this was the one.
And for some reason, I kept it all these years. Last check on Ebay showed that this Tom Brady 2000 Press Pass certified autograph card was going for $247 – AT ITS CHEAPEST!!
I don’t sell stuff I collect, but if there ever was a card I would, it’d be this one. Though I appreciate the heck out of what he has done in his career, and he’s a sure-fire first-ballot NFL hall of famer, I’ve never been a Tom Brady fan, including back in the Michigan days.
Can’t stand the New England Patriots and their “genius” coach Bill Belichick as a whole. But I sure do like this card!
