As expected, there was no joy in Lincoln today for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Here are the post-game player interviews from the Devaney Center. Iowa’s players include: Devyn Marble, Eric May, Mike Gesell and Aaron White. Nebraska center Brandon Ubel also is in the video package.

Here’s the quick-lead Iowa game story and halftime highlights:

LINCOLN, Neb. — If Iowa had any hopes of an NCAA tournament bid, they came crashing down in a 64-60 loss at Nebraska today.

The Hawkeyes (17-10, 6-8 Big Ten) led by 19 points late in the first half only to collapse throughout the second half. Iowa was outscored 10-3 in the final 4:45.

Here’s the first-half recap:

Aaron White and Devyn Marble each have 10 points to pace Iowa to a 41-25 halftime lead against Nebraska this afternoon

Iowa players huddle up during a first-half media timeout Saturday at the Devaney Center in Lincoln, Neb.

Two major spurts helped Iowa (17-9, 6-7 Big Ten) scoot to its lead. After a Ray Gallegos jumper brought Nebraska within 12-11, the Hawkeyes sprinted to a 14-2 run. Free throws from Aaron White and Zach McCabe started the run. Iowa’s Josh Oglesby stole a pass at mid-court, then dished to Anthony Clemmons, who scored in the paint and was fouled to compete a traditional three-point play. After Nebraska’s David Rivers hit a jumper, Iowa’s Eric May drained a 3-pointer. Gabe Olaseni then scored on back-to-back possessions to pace Iowa to a 26-13 lead.

The Huskers (12-14, 3-10) trimmed Iowa’s lead to 10 on a Gallegos’ 3-pointer, then Iowa followed with a 9-0 run — all on 3-pointers. May started with an open trey, followed by back-to-back 3-pointers from Marble. All of the shots were taken left of the basket.

The Hawkeyes are shooting 43.8 percent and are 9-for-9 from the free-throw line. Nebraska is 1-of. -5 from the line. Iowa’s bench has outscored Nebraska’s bench 15-0.

  1. This was less a collapse than it was an act of treason.
