Police investigate theft of earrings worth nearly $16,000 from Westdale store

Store had displayed five pairs of earrings for man believed to be potential customer

Officials are investigating a theft from a Westdale Mall jewelry store Tuesday afternoon.

Around 3 p.m., officials responded to Rogers Jewelers in Westdale Mall, 2600 Edgewood Rd. SW. Authorities said around 2:30 p.m., a male in his mid-20s entered the store and asked to see some earrings. While looking at the jewelry, he grabbed five pairs of earrings and took off running from the store. Officials said employees ran after the man, but were unable to catch him.

Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said the man took five pairs of earrings worth a total of about $15,695.

The suspect is described as a mixed-race male between 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing about 180 to 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a stocking cap, dark coat and a gray hoodie.
