WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Mackey Arena hasn’t been a very good place for the University of Iowa women’s basketball team in recent years.
The Hawkeyes snapped a couple of losing streaks, dropping No. 18 Purdue, 72-52, their seventh win this season over a nationally ranked opponent.
Iowa came in on a five-game losing skid and hadn’t won in Mackey Arena in 15 years, a span of 12 games.
Sophomore Samantha Logic scored a career-high 26 points, canning 10 of 13 field goals as Iowa improved to 17-10 overall, 6-7 in the Big Ten.
Purdue dropped to 19-6, 8-4.
Theairra Taylor chipped in with 15 points and a team-high 11 rebounds and Morgan Johnson and Melissa Dixon also scored in double-digits with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Iowa shot 50 percent field the field and limited the Boilermakers to 31 percent success. Half of the Hawkeyes’ points were scored from in the paint and many of those were successful drives to the rim.
The lead changed hands five times in the first half before back-to-back 3-pointers by Logic and Taylor put the Hawkeyes in front, 24-20. Iowa took a 32-27 lead into intermission thanks to 13 points from Logic and another 11 from Taylor.
The Hawkeyes jumped on the Boilermakers at the start of the second half, pushing their lead to 11 when Logic raced through an open lane for a layup.
Iowa is idle until next Sunday when it travels to Nebraska.
