The City of Marion is pleased to introduce Mike Carolan as director of the Parks and Recreation Department. Most recently, Carolan had served as interim director. In this new role, he will oversee all divisions of the Parks and Recreation Department, guide future planning and budgeting, and coordinate the efforts of boards, committees and partnering organizations.
No stranger to the community, Carolan has been with the City of Marion for 25 years. He has served in various roles for both the Public Services and Parks and Recreation Departments and played an instrumental role in a number of major projects. Most notably, Carolan was involved in the construction of the Arts and Environment Center, sports complex and greenhouse all at Lowe Park, construction of the Thomas Park Maintenance Building, and ongoing expansion of the Marion trails system.
Carolan is excited about what lies ahead; eager to help the Parks and Recreation staff fulfill their goals and further develop partnerships with other departments and organizations.
“The energy in Marion right now is amazing,” said Carolan, noting the Main Street Iowa designation and Blue Zones demonstration site recognition recently earned by the community.
“I look forward to the development of new parks as the community grows, and I’m thankful to have the opportunity to work with such a dedicated group of people.”
In his free time, Carolan enjoys walleye fishing, studying history and time spent with his wife Cathy and son Josh.
His office is located at Thomas Park. Carolan can be reached at 319-447-3580 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
