CEDAR FALLS – One University of Northern Iowa presidential finalist has withdrawn his name from consideration, leaving two remaining candidates who will interview Thursday with the state Board of Regents.

Avijit Ghosh, senior adviser to the president at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, withdrew his name from consideration for the UNI job, university officials said. They did not give a reason, but leaders of the search said they wish him well in his future endeavors.

A revised schedule for Thursday’s regents meeting in West Des Moines was released, taking the third finalist interview off the schedule.

The regents at 9 a.m. Thursday will hear from finalist Michael Wartell, chancellor emeritus and professor of chemistry at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, followed by a 10:45 a.m. interview with candidate William Ruud, president of Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania.

According to the schedule, the regents are expected to deliberate from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. Thursday, with the announcement of the new UNI president at 2 p.m.
