Inmate escapes from Cedar Rapids work release facility

Kummerfeldt convicted of burglary, willful injury in 2009 incident

A 22-year-old inmate has been listed as escaped from a work release facility in Cedar Rapids.

The Iowa Corrections Department says James Kummerfeldt didn’t return as scheduled from his job on Monday. He was transferred to the facility on Nov. 20.

Kummerfeldt’s original sentence began on Jan. 27, 2009. He’d been convicted of burglary and of causing willful injury in Linn County.
