Michael Rotolo

In a further sign goaltender Steve Michalek won’t play the rest of the season for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, the USHL club acquired goaltender Michael Rotolo from the Green Bay Gamblers on Sunday. The teams also will exchange draft picks as part of the trade.

Rotolo, 19, was a part of the RoughRiders briefly two seasons ago as an emergency backup. The Rochester, N.Y., resident was 14-8-1 in 25 games this season with Green Bay, posting a 2.85 goals against average and .901 save percentage.

He went 13-2-1 in 22 games last season for Green Bay.

Michalek did not dress for a game Saturday night against Youngstown, with sources saying he has been told by Harvard College not to play the rest of the season or risk losing eligibility with the Crimson next season. Michalek became the RoughRiders’ No. 1 netminder after joining the team midseason from Harvard, where he was part of a widespread academic cheating scandal that involved athletes in several sports at the school.
