The third and final presidential candidate at the University of Northern Iowa has been named in advance of his campus visit next week.

Michael A. Wartell, chancellor emeritus at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, will visit the UNI campus Monday and Tuesday, and his public forum is at 3 p.m. Monday in the Maucker Union Old Central Ballroom.

Wartell was named IPFW chancellor in July 1994, having previously served as vice chancellor for academic affairs and professor of chemistry. He became chancellor emeritus in July 2012. Wartell has a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of New Mexico and master’s and doctoral degrees in physical chemistry from Yale University.

The three presidential finalists will interview with the state Board of Regents on Feb. 7 in West Des Moines. The new UNI president will succeed Ben Allen, who is retiring.
