After spending nearly 20 years in human resources, including her last stint with West Liberty Foods, Jaime Parizek decided in October to take a chance at going solo.

Parizek  launched a local branch of a recruiting firm for the restaurant and hospitality industry, Patrice & Associates. The Maryland-based company is a national firm that helps match job candidates with open restaurant and hospitality positions, primarily in management.

Parizek opened Iowa’s first Patrice & Associates franchise out of her West Liberty home.

“The corporate life was great for me, but I just wanted to pursue my entrepreneurial dreams and achieve a better life balance,” she said. “And one of the great things about Patrice & Associates is that I can pursue my career ambitions while helping people.”

“I am recruiting for Eastern Iowa, and I want that to be my primary territory, but I have been recruiting nationwide as well,” she said.

Patrice & Associates has a built-in network of restaurant clients that Parizek has been working with, such as Panera Bread, Cheesecake Factory, T.G.I. Fridays and Applebee’s. But, Parizek said, she’s planning to add local clients to that list.

“My goal is over the next few months to get out there and meet with restaurant owners and franchises,” she said.

And Parizek works with applicants, too, helping them compile resumes and prepare for interviews.

“I work for both restaurants and candidates,” she said. “We partner with client companies to find them management candidates and, for the candidates, we are like career coaches.”

Her services for the candidates are free. She makes her money off the restaurant clients – charging varying fees per placement depending on the positions she helps to fill.

And business so far has been booming.

“It’s been crazy busy,” she said. “But it’s been good.”

Part of Parizek’s career move had to do with the flexibility she wanted for her family – she has two children, ages 6 and 2.

“The flexibility has been exactly what I’ve been looking for,” she said.

Parizek said she has struck a good balance between family and work, and she likes being the one who makes all the important business decisions.
